CardMunch is a free iPhone app that efficiently adds your business cards to your contact list.  What makes CardMunch unique is that real humans edit and review the business cards for accuracy.  What makes it a must have iPhone app?  The ability to invite any new contact to your LinkedIn network with just one tap.

How Does CardMunch Work?

Step 1. Capture an image of a business card.
Step 2. The image is sent to CardMunch where they manually transcribe the business card.  This insures accuracy.
Step 3. The contact is returned to your phone within minutes.

Hands On With CardMunch

When you launch the app, you can either log into your account or create an new one.

Once you are logged in, you can easily capture a new business card by pressing the camera button at the bottom of the screen.  The camera will launch and instruct you to align the business card in the green square.  The app will automatically capture the image and you have the option to accept or retake the image.

Once accepted, the image is sent to CardMunch to be transcribed and you will receive a push notification when the contact is added to your contact list.

It took 10 minutes for CardMunch to add a business card to my contacts.  This might seem like a long time but it is well worth it.

The contact information was added to both my contacts (under the contact’s name) and under a list of companies (under the company name).  This will come in handy when searching for one of your contact.

The business card image is stored under the contact information so you can reference it if you need to.

Bottom Line

I had previously used EverNote to scan and organize my business cards but as of today will be using CardMunch.  Not only its integration with LinkedIn but how easy it is to invite contacts to your network make this a must have app for me.

I collect a lot of business cards from real estate agants, mortgage professionals, contractors, and builders.  CardMunch will make it easy to manage these cards and easily grow my professional network.

LinkedIn recently purchased CardMunch and the app is free in the app store.  iTunes Link.  According to their website, a BlackBerry app is coming soon.

Crazy question but I have the iPad which does not have a camera. Is there any way to use this app with it? Can you use a dig camera, take a pic of the card and import it in? Great review.

Hey Tom. That is a good question. I just looked through all of the app’s settings on the phone and the FAQ section of their website and it looks like this is not possible. That’s too bad. Their website does say Android and Blackberry support are coming soon though!

Sounds like a useful app. It’s good that you have your wife’s business information in your phone too. :)

Very true Ryan. I might need to call or email her one day! Really, that was the only business card I had in my office. I had been storing all of my business cards in EverNote so I didn’t have any around.
