How To Create A Company Profile On LinkedIn

LinkedIn announced a new feature that allows individuals to follow a company.

Why would I want to follow a company on LinkedIn when I already follow them on Twitter, subscribe to their blog, and am their fan on Facebook?

Instead of receiving status updates from the companies you follow, you will instead get information such as recent hires and promotions, new job opportunities and company profile updates. via Mashable

This is an interesting development that will allow individuals to view the business end of companies.

Imagine looking for a new real estate company to work for and being able to view what local companies are hiring, who works for them, and their employee LinkedIn profiles.

You can use this feature to keep track of local competitors or get an insight on your industry.  Real estate appraisers could view what Appraisal Management Companies are growing and this might help appraisers establish and maintain relationships with those AMCs.

You can follow companies by either going to that company’s profile page or can follow a company from a person’s LinkedIn profile.

You will need to create a company profile page if you want people to follow your company on LinkedIn.

How to Create a company profile page on LinkedIn

1.  Join LinkedIn or log in if you have an account.

2.  Go to the Companies menu at the top.

You can also create a Custom Company Profile that lets lets you add more features like videos and interactive polls.  However, this feature is a premium product and is not free.

Why would I want to create a company profile on LinkedIn?

1) Build an online reputation for your business.  A LinkedIn company profile page can let people know what your business is about and build an online reputation.  It is also a great branding tool.

2) Get Business.  A LinkedIn company profile page is search engine friendly.  The page is public so it shows up in search results giving you and the company added exposure to not only new customers but potential employees.

3) Meet contacts in your industry.  LinkedIn is a powerful networking tool and can help you meet contacts and business partners in your industry.

4) Promote your company’s identity.  Your LinkedIn profile is linked to your company profile and will help promote your professional identity.

5) Increase Your local business credibility.  You can showcase your local company’s products, credentials, services, and accomplishments.

LinkedIn is different from many social networking sites and is geared specifically towards businesses.  Consider creating a personal profile page and / or a company page if you have not.

How have you used LinkedIn for your business?

Hi Bryan,

Good article, thank you.

If a company sets up a Linkedin company profile how do you post Activities like a PR announcement, newsletter, etc. I understand that you can enter a RSS feed or blog url; however, is there a way just to post an individual activity for all to see?

Thank you again.
