ACI has released its newest software, ACI2010, that includes some exciting features.  The new features include a service to import MLS data into ACI and the 1004MC addendum, pasting images into the addendum, a jump navigation feature to help quickly navigate the report, and the most exciting feature, File Sync.

File Sync—Post appraisal reports from a local computer to an ACI365™ account and edit appraisal reports online from home, on the road, or in the field using ACI’s Webforms.

ACI has taken a step in the right direction with File Sync.  There is a huge need for real estate appraisers to be mobile and ACI’s file sync will help them be.

Once a file is created in ACI, it can be uploaded to ACI365 and edited online.  According to the video, once a report has been uploaded, you can edit the report online for up to 10 days and it will cost you 1 choice credit.  After the file has been edited online, it can be downloaded back to your desktop from ACI365.

The real estate appraisal industry, in my opinion, has been slow to adopt new technology.  While new developments like A La Mode’s iPhone app and ACI’s File Sync are helping appraisers become more mobile, the industry as a whole has a long way to go.

The need to edit and/or correct appraisal files from the field is a critical need for real estate appraisers.  Appraisers need to be more mobile and tools to help appraisers accomplish this are slowly being developed.  My hope is that the appraisal software will be completely online or in the cloud in the near future.  Hopefully ACI’s File Sync is an indication that appraisal software in the cloud will eventually happen.

Do you edit or modify appraisal reports from the field or do you have to wait until you get back to the office?
