ZipRealty released an updated version of their iPhone app on February 18th. The updated version includes an augmented reality feature that enables the user to look through their iPhone to see what homes have sold recently and what homes are currently listed for sale.
ZipRealty’s new HomeScanTM feature gives users the opportunity to look through their iPhone, via the camera, and see all the pertinent real estate data about the homes nearby. The app will overlay “for sale” home information on the image, including the address and distance to home. Clicking on a listing shows all details, including prices, interior photos, square footage and third-party value estimates.

The iPhone app is extrememly easy to use and has a lot of useful features. You can see what homes are for sale and have sold recently on a map and can view sales price, square footage, and photos. It is interesting to note that you can only search for properties using the map and can not search for properties by address. Regardless, I would use the ZipRealty iPhone app if I was in the market for a home.
The app also lets users get price estimates on homes from CyberHomes and eppraisal. You can see the price estimates in the screenshot below for a property close to me. I’ll post more about automated valuation estimates on a later blog post as I think it deserves a blog post of its own.
ZipRealty’s app only shows data for residential properties. If you are in the market for a commercial property, check out my review of LoopNet’s free iPhone App.
More information is available online everyday. Data once locked up is being set free. There are pros and cons to this but I think real estate appraiser’s should embrace this new technology. The ZipRealty iPhone app is an app that I might use every now and then as a real estate appraiser. Would you use ZipRealty’s iPhone App?

Looks like a great app. Now all I need is an iPhone. I hope the Android comes out with something similar.
I love the “tight range” between cyberhomes and eappraisal. Even more reason to have your home appraised by a real appraiser.
I thought that range was a little funny too. That is a big ballpark!
