FastStone Capture is a screen capture tool. Version 6.5 is available on the FastStone website for $19.95. However, there is a freeware version 5.3 (originally released on 02/12/2007) that has all the features I need to use for my real estate appraisals.
With FastStone Capture you can capture an active window, a full window, part of a window, you can draw a shape to capture, and capture a scrolling window.
FastStone Capture has a small floating screen that you can move anywhere on your desktop and also minimize to your windows tray. ![]()
One of the nice things is that after you capture the screen, you can edit the picture in its own editor, send the image directly to the clipboard, save the image as a file, send it to the printer, or email the image.
You can also set the hotkeys to capture screens quickly.
Below is a quick demo of FastStone Capture 5.3.
FastStone Capture is compatible with Windows 98SE, ME, NT, 2000, XP, Vista.
FastStone Capture version 5.3 is available on several websites including download.cnet.com. The freeware version is for private non-commercial use.
Update
@appraiserjenn commented on Twitter that she uses Grab, “On my Apple side I have Grab, came with the mac. Only does tif though, convert it over to jpg.”
Another free option is to use the Print Screen button in windows and paste the image into paint.
